How to know if you have (irreversible) hair loss?

Scarring is the destruction of the hair follicle, and apart from a few rare exceptions such as cicatricial alopecia, it typically doesn't occur in the early stages of hair loss. On the contrary, having bald spots where hair hasn't grown in a long time may be a sign of scarring and therefore irreversible hair loss. To get an accurate diagnosis, we always recommend seeking medical advice. Customers with a subscription including the Bio-Pilixin® Serum can also speak with our certified trichologist who can help them make the most of our products.

Causes of hair loss

Stress

Stress-related hair loss tends to resolve on its own once the stressful event is over. That said, Bio-Pilixin® may be an effective aid in growing your hair back and maintaining its strength long term.

Genetics

Genetic hair loss cannot be prevented or reversed, but it may be delayed with the appropriate treatment when started in the early stages. Preliminary research on Bio-Pilixin® suggests that it can help balance the hair growth cycle, and therefore may be an effective aid in managing genetic hair loss.

Types of hair loss

Male pattern hair loss (MPHL)

MPHL is often caused by caused by a combination of hormonal and genetic factors, and is characterised by thinning on the crown of the head and receding hairlines. MPHL cannot be prevented or reversed, but it may be delayed with the appropriate treatment when started in the early stages. Preliminary research on Bio-Pilixin® suggests that it can help balance the hair growth cycle, and therefore may be an effective aid in managing MPHL.

Thinning on top and crown of head

Hair loss on the top and crown of the head is likely due to Male Pattern Hair Loss, which is caused by a combination of genetic factors and the effects of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Receding hairline

A receding hairline is also caused by Male Pattern Hair Loss most of the time, where the balding can start at the temples which then usually develops into a distinct “M” shape.

Patchy bald spots

When sudden hair loss results in coin-sized bald patches, it is usually caused by alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease causing the immune system to attack the hair follicles. Both men and women can experience this type of hair loss, and in most cases, the hair grows back by itself. Alopecia areata doesn’t have a cure but there are treatments that can help manage the condition including steroid injections, topical and oral medications. Bio-Pilixin® has not been tested on individuals with alopecia areata. However, it may be a useful addition to treatments known to improve the condition. If you’re considering the use of Bio-Pilixin® for alopecia areata, we recommend speaking to your medical provider first.

Diffuse thinning & visible scalp

Diffuse hair loss is characterised by shedding across the entire scalp leading to a “see-through” appearance, and it can be caused by a number of reasons. Telogen effluvium (triggered by an acute traumatic event), thyroid issues, iron deficiency anemia, malnutrition, rapid weight loss or low vitamin D levels. While this is a typical pattern in Female Pattern Hair Loss, in men, it usually indicates one of the above issues rather than Male Pattern Hair Loss.

Drugs and other hair loss treatments

Prescription hair‑loss medication

There is no specific trial data on the combined use of our Bio‑Pilixin® serum with doctor‑prescribed oral treatments. However, both products generally serve different functions in supporting hair health, and there are no known contraindications when used together. We still recommend consulting your healthcare provider to get personalised advice tailored to your specific needs.

Minoxidil

Bio-Pilixin® has not been tested for use alongside minoxidil, therefore, we cannot state whether it’s safe or effective when applied together. If ever in doubt, we recommend consulting an accredited healthcare professional.

Hair transplant

Hair transplant is an invasive surgical procedure, which may require several weeks of recovery time where the scalp might be red, swollen, and particularly sensitive. Therefore, we do not recommend using Bio-Pilixin® after this procedure without consulting your doctor. We have received feedback from customers who have had hair transplants and are using our Bio-Pilixin Serum to stimulate newly embedded hair follicles, reportedly with favourable results. However, individual experiences may vary, and professional medical advice should be your primary guide.

Others

Allergies

Bio-Pilixin® was patch tested under dermatological control on a group of 25 volunteers with normal skin. In the tested group of volunteers there were no irritations or allergic reactions. That said, any ingredient can cause allergic reactions, so we recommend performing a patch test before using our products or consulting a healthcare professional when in doubt.

Bio-Silacumin is a liquid formula, while the Hair Nutrient Tablets are in a tablet form.

The Hair Nutrient Tablets contain nutrients that contribute the maintenance of normal hair (e.g. zinc) and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress (e.g. riboflavin).

Bio-Silacumin also has ingredients that contribute to the maintenance of normal hair (e.g zinc and selenium). However, it’s key ingredient is Ortho-silicic Acid, a bioavailable source of silicon, which is an essential micronutrient of collagen synthesis.

Please be aware that both products contain Zinc. The first product provides 10 mg, and the second provides 9 mg per serving. Together, they provide 19 mg of Zinc.

EFSA sets the UL for Zinc at 25 mg per day for adults. This is the maximum amount considered unlikely to cause adverse health effects when consumed daily over a lifetime. You should consult with a healthcare provider to ensure safety based on your individual health needs.

If all these conditions are met, there should be no problems with incorporating both supplements into your routine. However, monitoring for any potential nutrient excess and adverse interactions is always crucial.

Hair supplements usually don’t stop hair loss, unless it’s caused by a deficiency in one of the nutrients in the supplement. Rather than targeting hair loss directly, the ingredients in Bio-Silacumin such as zinc and selenium aim to contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, while Ortho-silicic Acid provides a nutrient (silicon) that plays a role in the body’s natural collagen production.

We always recommend those trying to conceive, pregnant, or breastfeeding to consult their medical provider before starting a new supplement.

We recommend taking 2x10 drops a day either in a glass of water, juice, or smoothie, or directly.

One bottle of Bio-Silacumin should last for about a month.

No, Bio-Silacumin doesn’t contain any known endocrine disruptors.
